We knew for a while that OnePlus will unveil a new smartphone today. Rumors and reports aside, the company’s CEO himself Pete Lau has confirmed the existence of the OnePlus X, also teasing some of its features. Well, the new handset has been introduced to the public and the OnePlus X availability and price details are now officially official.
As the leaks that made the headlines over the past few months have suggested, the new OnePlus X is a phone that brings an impressive specs-to-price ratio. In fact, the new OnePlus X is some sort of OnePlus One variant for 2015, as the two devices share many hardware specifications. However, the design has been upgraded. The standard “Onyx” model has metal frames and glass front and back panels, while the limited edition OnePlus X Ceramic has a more durable ceramic back.
Before talking OnePlus X availability and price, let’s take a look at the technical specifications of the new budget-friendly smartphone. It features a 5-inch display with AMOLED technology, 1080 x 1920 resolution, 441 ppi pixel density, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection, while being underpinned by a quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor. It also brings 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of native storage, and dual Nano SIM support, though you can use one of the Nano SIM slots to expand the phone’s memory with up to 128 GB via microSD cards.
On the back of the device you will find a 13 MP ISOCELL 3M2 CMOS camera sensor with f/2.2 aperture and phase detection autofocus, while the selfie camera has 8 MP resolution. It measures 140 x 69 x 6.9 mm, weighs in at 138 grams, and it’s kept alive by a 2,525 mAh LiPo battery. It runs OxygenOS Android 5.1-based custom ROM, with almost-stock UI and software customizations such as Dark Mode, customizable launch gestures, Shelf assistant, or ambient display.
Just like the other members of the OnePlus portfolio, the new X will only be available with an invitation. On the European market, the smartphone will debut on November 5 at a price of €269. If you reside in the US you will be able to buy it starting November 19 priced at $249. OnePlus also revealed that 10,000 Ceramic models will go live for purchase in Europe and India at a heftier price of €369.
